Opportunity Is Served

Trusted by the hospitality and restaurant industries worldwide, Central Specialities (CSL) is a US-based company which focuses on providing high-quality products made from domestic materials. CSL will showcase a variety of its products on the show floor at the first-ever Marine Catering Expo, taking place June 19-20. In anticipation of the brand's exhibit, we spoke with CSL's owner and president Rodi Rozin.

Hi Rodi, thanks for speaking with us today! Can you tell us about your current role and key responsibilities?

As the owner and president, I am responsible for all aspects of our business. I focus primarily on business development and finance. I also work closely with Barbara Kwiatkowsky, our general manager, on day-to-day operations, including product sourcing, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.

I am focused on making CSL a green company, which means using recycled plastics, sustainably grown wood, and water-based paint.

What inspired you to join CSL?

I was inspired by CSL’s commitment to quality and customer service. It has an excellent reputation built over decades of serving the hospitality and restaurant industries. I acquired the business last year with the goal of expanding into new markets, such as the cruise line industry. I am also passionate about the environment and I am focused on making CSL a green company, which means using recycled plastics, sustainably grown wood, and water-based paint. Additionally, we donate a portion of our proceeds to non-profit organizations fighting plastic pollution in the oceans.

What project are you particularly proud of and why?

We recently launched a kids’ highchair, which is made from recycled plastic milk bottles. It is an environmentally friendly product, which is also highly practical. It is great for outdoor use and can be made in various colors to fit any restaurant decor. It also meets the latest safety requirements.

What do you need to consider when it comes to providing solutions for the marine industry?

There are several factors that need to be considered. Given the space constraints on a cruise ship, product dimensions are critical. For example, a cruise ship may need a smaller bellman cart to fit into a narrow hallway. Also, the ability of products to withstand corrosion and other weather conditions. We can customize our products to meet the specific needs of our customers.

Are there any key opportunities or challenges your company faces at present?

We have great products and excellent service. Our biggest challenge is reaching decision makers who are responsible for purchasing to ensure they know about our products and capabilities.

Can you tell us about any trends in the marine catering industry from 2019? Or what you expect to see in the coming years?

We are new to the marine industry. We look forward to learning more about industry trends so that we can meet the needs of our customers. We are hoping there is a trend toward environmentally friendly products that align with our direction as a company!

Who are you looking to meet and what do you hope to achieve at Marine Catering Expo 2019?

We are hoping to get greater exposure for our products and establish contacts with furniture and equipment buyers from cruise lines.
